Where is the 124 Grand Market?

We are located on the east side of 124 Street along 108 avenue in Edmonton, AB. We take up one block between 123 and 124 Street.

 

When is the market?

In our 6th season we launch May 11 to October 5. We run from 4-8 PM every Thursday during this time!

 

Is there a fee to get in?

Absolutely not! The market is FREE. Save your pennies to support a local farmer or buy that scarf you really like, or another taco from the food truck! We also encourage you to please tip the performers as they are busking and volunteering their time!

 

How do I get to the market?

We encourage patrons to walk, bike or use ETS to get to the market if they do not live in the neighbourhood. Limited parking is available in IMPARK and City patrolled stalls on 124 Street.

ETS Route Downtown to 124 St: #5 or #135 (Northbound)

ETS Route U of A to 124 St: LRT to Bay/Corona Station, take #5 or #135 (Northbound)

 

Parking

Parking is available in the neighbourhood around 124 Street area; however we encourage you to to bike, walk or take transit to us! Dusty Pedals Bike Repair will be joining us at the market so you can get a tune-up while you eat your dinner!

 

Are you dog friendly?

YES! As long as your pooch is on a leash we are happy to have them join us at the market. (Please don’t bring other animals to the market that may make dogs uncomfortable in large crowds. Ex. Cats, birds, ferrets or farm animals, ect.) Be sure to take photos of your pup at the market and use the hashtag #dogsof124.

 

Do Vendors accept cash only?

Some vendors do have point of sale machines or swipe apps that support the use of cards. However there are some that do accept cash and market bucks only.

 

Do you have an ATM on site?

YES! We run a program called Market Bucks. This program works just like an ATM. You can use your credit or debit card to purchase “cash” in $20 increments for a $2.75 service fee. You can use it with ANY VENDOR at the market and it does not expire. It works like cash! So if you buy something that is $10 you’ll get $10 change back in REAL MONEY from the vendor. Those vendors get paid out at the end of the evening by the Market Managers.

Why do we do it this way, you may ask? Well we take the $2.75 we collect from your transaction and we put it back into our Little Beans Program to ensure that farmers get compensated for supporting the program.

 

Little Beans? What is it?

Little Beans is a FREE program for kids ages 4-12. The program starts in June and once your ‘Bean’ signs up they are entitled to free produce at one of our participating farmers every week. All you have to do is check in and get your token. It’s easy, fun, and educational! This year Little Beans will also be offering up workshops for kids; so keep an eye out for that!

 

It’s the first market and there are only a couple of farmers selling vegetables. Where are the rest of the producers?

Due to the growing season in Alberta we usually have to wait until about June to see the full list of produce available at the market. The season usually kicks off with our BC vendors who supply us in the shoulder season with vegetables; and then as the growing season progresses you’ll start to see Greenhouse and then market garden veg showing up at the market. Our full list of vendors will be published weekly on the 124grandmarket.com website.

 

What kind of vendors do you have?

We have local produce, prepared foods, fresh breads and sweets, vegan baking, artisans, upcycled vintage, fresh flowers, and more! Just about anything you can think of we have at our market. The 124 Grand Market is proud of the fact that our market is delicately curated to quality and locally produced.

 

How do I become a vendor?

The applications are closed for the current season; however we release apps for the spring in the New Year. If you have questions about how to become a vendor or help in starting your business drop us a line and we can steer you in the right direction!

 

What if it’s raining? Will the market be cancelled?

We are an all weather, rain/shine/snow market! The only time that we will ever cancel the market is in the event of Severe weather; extreme cold, wind, or in the event of Electrical. If you aren’t sure about whether the market will be a go, stay tuned to our social media outlets on market days to see updates regarding weather or closures.

 

What kind of performers do you have at the market?

All kinds! Musicians, actors, escape Artists! We support all sorts of art and performance in our city. Please do know that all of our performers are busking; so do bring some change or small bills to help support these performers and keep local art thriving!

    I preferred it when you change to 102nd Ave. last year why did you go back to 108th Ave. where there’s no parking

      Hi Dolores,
      We were very lucky to have a parking lot next to the market last year. However that was a temporary location as there was revitalization happening at our original avenue. This year as well, we were unable to remain there due to construction happening on the new McLehren Building. We hope to find a way to activate 102 avenue in the future. For visiting the 108 avenue location, we recommend parking on the west side of 124 street in the residential area and then crossing 124 street.

    Good Morning,

    I was just wondering if the 124th market allows community tables to be set up occasionally at the market? We are a non-profit organisation, who run local tennis programs in the area, including a free schools program for underprivileged schools in Westmount/Inglewood. We would love to be a part of one of of your market days, if possible, at all. All of our equipment is portable, so we could even set up a mini-net for the children to play, if space provided.
