Little Beans Program

124_littlebeans_b&w_2inLittle Beans, generously supported by Glenora Homesencourages healthy nutrition and conscientious consumer habits for children ages 4-12. The Little Beans Kids Program was established by The 124 Grand Market in 2015, inspired by the nationally-recognized POP (Power of Produce) Club at the Oregon City Farmers’ Market and SPROUTS  Kids Club at South West Edmonton Farmers Market. We have had such a successful run with the program, reaching hundreds of children in the city! The 2018 addition of our Sunday Market will see hundreds more. Starting June 3 the Little Beans program will be available at both the 124 Grand Market on 108 Avenue (East Side – 4-8pm) as well as the 124 Grand Market on 102 Avenue (East Side – 11-3pm)!

Registered kids can participate by finding the answer for the question-of-the-day with one of our produce vendors. Once they find the answer and bring it to our Information Tent, they will receive one Little Beans market token to exchange for a selection of produce or plants from participating vendors! The vendors will be reimbursed for the value of each Little Beans token, so your participation also supports local growers!

Tokens will be available starting at our first Sunday market (June 3) on 102 Ave – but registration is open now! Once your child is registered, they can check in with the info tent once a week to participate. A reusable shopping bag will be provided to each child when they sign-up which you are encouraged to bring weekly for your shopping.

  • Little Beans participants must be within ages 4-12.
  • Participants can check in once weekly at either the Thursday or Sunday Markets to receive a token.
  • Tokens must be redeemed the day they are received and cannot be saved for future Markets.
  • Pre-registering will save you some time at your first visit – but you can also register in person at the Market!

How You Can Help

We are working hard to improve children’s relationship with local food. We are happy to announce that due to our efforts in 2015, the Little Beans program received a Youth Environmental Engagement Award from the Alberta Emerald Foundation and have also been nominated for an Emerald Award for the program.

Our 2018 Season Sponsor is Glenora Homes. Thank you, Glenora Homes, for your incredible support towards this year’s 124 Grand Market’s Little Beans program.

We are seeking sponsorship on a full season, monthly, weekly or in-kind basis for next years market season, 2019, to support the program. The Grand Markets in Edmonton are very popular with a wide-reaching demographic in two mature neighbourhoods in the city. We believe the exposure opportunities our market can provide for local businesses are immense, and your recognized support of the Little Beans children’s program is an excellent way to demonstrate your business’s commitment to the community. Please see our Sponsorship Package for the 2018 Market season, which outlines the program in more detail and the various sponsorship levels, to get an idea for next years market. If you are unable to support the program monetarily, we would also be happy for your promotional support to your networks! Please do not hesitate to email or call with any further questions. We look forward to partnering with you to encourage healthy, sustainable, local living in our next generation of market-goers!
