124 Grand Market

Vendor Profiles — Moonshine Doughnuts, Filigree Pastries, & Confetti Sweets

Meet some of our friends!

Our Market features the best local vendors in town. Every Wednesday during the market season we will be releasing Vendor Profiles as part of our collaboration with our amazing vendors. This week we’re highlighting the to-die-for Moonshine Doughnuts, the prim and proper Filigree Pastries, and one of YEG’s favourite cookie bakers, Confetti Sweets. These three vendors bring some of the best locally produced products to the #124grandmarket.

Moonshine Doughnuts

Moonshine Doughnuts, also known as Doughnut Party, is run by two incredible community driven individuals, Matthew and Simon. They’ve been baking the best doughnuts in Edmonton since 2012! Moonshine made their start with the 124 Grand Market, six years ago! Their doughnuts are hand-dipped, small batch baked, using the best a tastiest local and seasonal ingredients they can find. Moonshine takes a simple doughnut and transforms it into an experience. Their doughnuts are unique because they aren’t like your regular old doughnut from Tim Hortons, they’re freshly baked and elegant in both their taste and their look. From flavours like fuzzy-peach to pickles, Moonshine Doughnuts isn’t afraid to take a chance and that’ why they’re so successful. They have not only been recognized locally but nationally and even internationally. As for Doughnut Party, they’re different because they’re grand. With Doughnut Party, there’s a chance you’d never see a bigger doughnut. Their doughnuts are for everybody, and a lot of them are even vegan, which comes as a surprise to most people because their doughnuts are so airy and fluffy, even when they’re dense. They’re one in the same and they’re incredible all-together. Catch them this Thursday and enjoy the best doughnuts in town.

Filigree Pastries

Filigree Pastries, run by Kent Lukey, started out as a hobby and bloomed into so much more. Kent combined a love for baking with a love for detail, and thus, Filigree Pastries was born. The pastries are all hand-made and decorated by Kent, made with locally sourced ingredients too! Kent specializes in macarons. And they are absolutely delicious. If you are a fan of macarons and supporting local, you’ll love Kent and Filigree Pastries. Kent also gets pretty creative with the macarons. With bright colours and hand-drawn designs, Kent’s macarons are absolutely beautiful and perfect in every way, like a flower! Kent sells these incredible creations at farmer’s markets, various events, online, for weddings, taking wholesale orders too. Catch Filigree Pastries at this Thursday’s market and enjoy another one of our delicious sweets options!

Confetti Sweets

Confetti Sweets, run by the exceptional Kathy Leskow who went from stay-at-home mom to cookie god-mother, the Don Corleone of #YEG’s cookie world. Starting out in her own kitchen and serving a handful of farmer’s markets, Kathy wanted more,  and that’s when she bought her own commercial oven and moved her operation to her basement. However, that quickly proved to be insufficient and she took her recipes and opened up a storefront to give Confetti Sweets a permanent home. She now has two storefronts, one in Edmonton and one in Sherwood Park. The reason Confetti Sweets’ cookies are the best is that they use real butter, not margarine, not “I-can’t-believe-it’s-not-butter”, and not shortening. Just good, old-fashioned, real butter. They use real chocolate, different kinds too, real peanut butter, real sugar, and real vanilla! Everything they use is real, which says a lot because so many big cookie corporations prefer to use the fake stuff to preserve their foods long, but not Confetti Sweets. They’ve also sold their cookies to some Hollywood elites at two pre-Oscars parties, how neat! Find Confetti Sweets at this Thursday’s market and complete your sweet tooth cravings with their cookies!
